Rent Our Sheep!
Our sheep flock is available for hire to clear overgrown property
in the SC Upstate and the greater Charlotte, NC area.
What Is It?
Sheep rental is an eco-friendly and cost-efficient alternative for jobs typically requiring power equipment. Our flock eats greenery up to about 4 feet off the ground, leaving stems and stalks visible for easy clearing. Dense brush, vines, steep hills, wooded areas, and other difficult terrain is perfect for their services.
How Does It Work?
We visit your property to give an estimate on how many sheep are needed and for how long.
On delivery day, we bring the sheep and all supplies needed.
We return to check progress every 3-5 days.
When the sheep’s work is done, we load them back up and give your final invoice.
Why Sheep?
Sheep are the ideal first step to getting overgrown property under control. They are quiet and docile, a pleasure to watch as they graze the landscape. Their care is simple and straightforward. They are an environmentally safe alternative to expensive landscaping services and toxic herbicides.
Things To Know
The sheep will not usually kill plants completely, especially on their first go-through.
We recommend that you have a plan for next steps in place before a sheep rental to keep unwanted plants from regrowing.

FAQs
-
Our sheep love to graze and browse most shrubs, grasses, and ground-cover plants. Their favorites are Chinese privet, Manhattan euonymus, poison ivy, English ivy, kudzu, and honeysuckle. Sheep generally cause little to no damage to mature trees. The one exception in our experience is crape myrtle; they love to strip and eat its bark.
-
They will not eat very tall grass (especially with seed heads), brambles, vinca, azalea, Virginia creeper, or most wisteria.
-
We will visit your property to estimate how many sheep are needed and for how long. This varies depending on time of year, types of plants, and denseness of brush. We prefer to fence off about an acre at a time, which takes 3-10 days for 12-15 sheep to clear.
We deliver the sheep and all the supplies needed for the rental. We return every 3-5 days to check on progress, refresh supplies, and switch out the fence battery as needed. When the sheep are finished clearing, we load everything back up and give your final invoice.
-
We will travel up to about 50 miles from our zip code area (29730). In SC, this includes the Rock Hill, York, Chester, Lancaster, Winnsboro, Newberry, and Spartanburg areas. In NC, it includes the Monroe, Matthews, Charlotte, Concord, Mooresville, Gastonia, Lincolnton, and Shelby areas.
-
Our base fee is $250 in the Rock Hill area (<30 minute drive from our farm), $350 in the greater Charlotte area.
We charge a per diem rental fee for each sheep, plus itemized fees for temporary fencing, hay & feed, and hourly (human) labor.
See our Rental Fees page for more details.
-
Where fencing is needed, we will supply everything to run the portable electric netting, including batteries, a ground rod, and a charger. We will bring some feed and ask that you give the sheep a daily ration to gather them for counting and checking up on them. We also supply a water tub and ask that you refill it daily.
We can supply tree cages to protect plants you don’t want the sheep to eat, hoses to reach the water tub, or other miscellaneous needs for an additional small fee.
-
Our farm business carries a commercial liability insurance policy. We ask that you advise your HOA, neighbors, or anyone else who may be concerned, that the sheep are visiting your property temporarily to do land-clearing. Wild predators such as coyotes are not usually a concern because they tend not to attack animals as large as sheep, and the electric fence is a strong deterrent.
